Modular Camp Solutions for the Libya Great Man Made River (GMMR) with Dorçe Signature for a Guinness Record Project

The Great Man Made River Project (GMMR), which constitutes Libya’s lifeline and is registered by the Guinness Book of Records as “the world’s largest water transport project,” is a giant engineering network of 4,400 km that transports fossil water obtained from 1,300 wells opened in the Sahara Desert to the country’s residential areas with a daily capacity of 6.5 million m³. Construction activities in the Kufra – Al Gardabiya – Assadadah region, one of the most challenging sections of these critical lines, were supported by DORÇE’s modular camp solutions providing rapid mobilization.

Turnkey Modular Camp with Multiple Sites for Tekfen – TML Partnership

Within the scope of the project, DORÇE completed 18,800 m² of enclosed area in only 6 months, including three different usage types: fixed camp, mobile camp and employer camp, to support the operations of the Tekfen – TML Partnership.

Comprehensive Modular Camp Solutions Delivered by DORÇE for the GMMR Project

Within the scope of Libya’s Guinness Record holding Great Man Made River Project (GMMR), an integrated prefabricated modular camp area was constructed turnkey by DORÇE to meet all operational, technical and vital needs of the teams working on the most challenging working line of the Sahara Desert. The camp was designed with a hybrid settlement approach that includes both fixed and mobile functions together to support long term field activities.

Within this comprehensive implementation, DORÇE realized the following building systems and infrastructure solutions on a single integrated site:

Modular Buildings and Living Areas

  • Accommodation buildings (single storey modular prefabricated units)
  • Dining hall, social facilities and rest areas
  • Administrative offices, control units and operation management modules
  • Rapid installation work modules for functions requiring temporary and mobile use
  • Shading and outdoor arrangements suitable for desert conditions

Technical Units and Support Structures

  • Generator rooms, energy distribution panels and temporary energy lines
  • Water pumping units, electrical rooms and technical volume containers
  • Light and heavy steel mixed warehouse solutions for equipment and material storage
  • Heavy steel hangar systems for wide span storage and maintenance structures

Comprehensive MEP and Infrastructure Systems

DORÇE established a fully comprehensive infrastructure system integrated to all units of the camp:

  • Simultaneous installation of electrical, mechanical, air conditioning and sanitary networks
  • Clean water tanks, internal line connections and on site network system
  • Concrete block placement system applied under each module
  • Wastewater and septic water treatment solutions installed on container units
  • Septic tank and wastewater treatment systems operating at full capacity throughout the camp
  • Heat resistant exterior façade, high insulation and reinforced construction techniques suitable for harsh desert conditions

This infrastructure enabled the camp to operate uninterruptedly in both fixed functions and short term mobile operations.

High Performance in Harsh Desert Conditions

During the design and construction of the camp, special solutions were applied to provide resistance against critical factors such as:

  • high temperature,
  • sand storms,
  • logistics access difficulties and
  • long pipeline operations

DORÇE’s modular production approach provided significant speed and operational efficiency at all stages of the project by ensuring that all building components were pre produced in the factory environment and shipped to the site ready for rapid installation.
