A Large-Scale Living Camp Project at the Heart of Qatar’s LNG Industry
The Ras Laffan Industrial Zone (Ras Laffan Industrial City) is a strategic industrial area located approximately 50 kilometers north of Doha, the capital of Qatar, and is recognized as one of the world’s largest LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) production centers. In this region, where LNG, oil, and natural gas investments are heavily concentrated, high-capacity, durable, and comfortable living facilities are critically important to ensure the uninterrupted operation of energy facilities.
Implemented within this context, the Ras Laffan Industrial Zone 3,550-Person Worker Accommodation Camp Project was developed to meet the housing and daily living needs of on-site personnel working in LNG and heavy industrial facilities. The project was designed as a high-capacity and functional camp settlement, combining multi-storey and low-rise building typologies within the same campus.
Executed by DORÇE, the project was planned by taking into account Ras Laffan’s harsh site conditions, including high temperatures, humidity, and intense industrial activity. Engineering solutions, building systems, and technical infrastructure were implemented in full compliance with these environmental conditions. The project stands as a strong reference demonstrating DORÇE’s engineering and execution expertise in developing large-scale worker camps and living facilities for the LNG and energy sectors.
Turnkey Implementation Under the Design and Build Model
The project was delivered using the Design and Build model, with design, engineering, production, and installation processes managed under a single integrated structure. This approach enabled the rapid delivery of different building types and technical systems within a short timeframe while maintaining high-quality standards.
Multi-Storey and Low-Rise Steel Building Systems
Within the scope of the Ras Laffan Worker Accommodation Camp Project, the following were used together:
• One- and two-storey buildings
• One- and two-storey light steel buildings
• Heavy steel and pre-engineered steel building systems
This diversity of building types was planned in accordance with the functional requirements of the camp, user density, and industrial site conditions. Light steel systems provided rapid installation advantages, while heavy steel structures delivered high durability and long-term performance.
Construction, Electrical, and Mechanical Works
Within the project, which covers a total construction area of approximately 34,500 m², the following works were completed in full:
• Building construction works
• Electrical installation and infrastructure applications
• Mechanical systems
• Thermosiphon (water heating) units
• Air conditioning and HVAC systems
All mechanical and electrical systems were designed and implemented by taking into account Ras Laffan’s high temperature and humidity conditions.
Comfort and Continuity Under Industrial Conditions
The worker camp was planned to meet the accommodation and daily living needs of personnel working in LNG and heavy industrial facilities. Both multi-storey and low-rise accommodation buildings were supported with efficient climate control and hot water systems, prioritizing employee comfort and operational efficiency.
Reliable and Fast Delivery in a Challenging LNG Environment
Engineering and installation works carried out by DORÇE were executed in full compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and international quality standards required by the LNG sector. The project was successfully completed within the planned timeframe between September 2006 and January 2007.
A Strong LNG Camp Reference in the Middle East
The Ras Laffan Industrial Zone 3,550-Person Worker Accommodation Camp Project demonstrates DORÇE’s strong EPC and Design and Build capabilities in the Middle East, particularly in:
• LNG, oil, and natural gas sectors
• Multi-storey and modular worker camps
• Light steel and heavy steel building solutions
This project once again confirms that DORÇE is a reliable solution partner for large-scale industrial living facilities.
