Safe and Rapid Educational Facilities with Light Gauge Steel (LGSF) Technology for UNICEF, AFAD and the Ministry of National Education

Located on Türkiye’s southern border, Kilis is a province exposed to crisis conditions and sudden population movements. Within this context, the 12-Classroom Prefabricated School Building Project, implemented for UNICEF in coordination with the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Interior Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the Ministry of National Education (MoNE), stands as an important public and humanitarian reference demonstrating DORCE’s expertise in emergency education infrastructure, EPC project management, and light steel building technologies.

Completed and commissioned in May 2014, the project has an enclosed building area of approximately 920 m² and was designed to provide a fast, safe, and sustainable solution to the educational needs of the region. A key objective was to ensure continuity of education under extraordinary conditions such as disasters, migration, and rapid population growth.

Turnkey Educational Facility Delivered with the EPC Model

The project was carried out on a turnkey basis under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model. Within this scope, DORCE managed the design and engineering works, material procurement, logistics, assembly, infrastructure, and superstructure works through an integrated project management approach. This model provided public institutions and international organizations with simultaneous control over time, quality, and cost.

Safe Learning Environments with Light Gauge Steel (LGSF) Building Technology

The Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF) Building System selected for the project is an ideal solution for educational facilities thanks to its earthquake resistance, rapid installation, and long-life structural performance. Factory-produced panelized steel systems significantly minimized on-site installation time while maintaining the highest level of quality assurance through controlled production conditions.

This system ensures a safe and comfortable learning environment for students and teachers, particularly in regions such as Kilis where seismic risk and climate conditions must be carefully considered.

Comprehensive Implementation Including Infrastructure and Landscaping

Within the scope of this project, DORCE delivered not only the school building itself but also all related environmental and technical requirements through a holistic execution approach. Works completed included:

• Reinforced concrete foundation construction
• Ground leveling
• Interlocking paving stone and pedestrian walkways
• Concrete curbs and pavement works
• Electrical and mechanical installations
• Transportation, assembly, and on-site coordination

Thanks to this comprehensive delivery, the school building was handed over fully operational and ready for immediate use.

A Reliable Educational Infrastructure Solution for International Organizations

This project, realized through the cooperation of UNICEF, AFAD, and the Ministry of National Education, has strengthened DORCE’s position as a trusted partner in international organization projects, disaster management programs, and public education investments. DORCE continues to deliver rapid and durable building solutions that ensure uninterrupted access to education in crisis-affected regions and emergency conditions.

The project clearly reflects DORCE’s integrated engineering approach in humanitarian relief, post-disaster recovery, and public education infrastructure through the application of light steel building technology.
