An Energy-Sector-Specific Modular Camp Solution Rapidly Delivered Under Desert Conditions, Manufactured in Ankara and Transported to Site Through International Logistics

Within the scope of the In Amenas Gas Compression Project, carried out in In Amenas, one of the most challenging and isolated regions of the Sahara Desert in southeastern Algeria, a Prefabricated Modular Worker Accommodation Camp with a capacity of 750 people was successfully completed by DORÇE Prefabricated Buildings & Construction to meet the accommodation needs of on-site personnel.

The Employer and Project Owner is the JVGAS Consortium, consisting of British Petroleum, Sonatrach, and Statoil. The Engineering Company for the project is Fluor Limited. The camp structures were delivered within the scope of supply and on-site implementation support for Samsung Engineering Company Limited.

Rapid Mobilization and Installation Completed in 4 Months

Within the scope of the project, DORÇE utilized demountable flat-pack container units and prefabricated modular steel building systems, completing and commissioning the worker camp in an exceptionally short period of approximately 4 months, between January and April 2011. Compared to conventional reinforced concrete construction methods, this delivery period provided a significant time and operational advantage.

From Ankara to the Sahara: Integrated Production and International Logistics Management

All modular and prefabricated building components within the project scope were designed, manufactured, quality-controlled, and prepared for shipment at DORÇE’s fully integrated production facilities in Ankara. The completed structures were then:

• Transported by road from Ankara to the port
• Shipped by sea to Algerian ports
• Subsequently delivered to the In Amenas site location in the Sahara Desert via long-distance road transportation

This multi-modal logistics chain was planned and managed end-to-end by DORÇE, taking into account:

• Harsh desert conditions
• Long transportation distances
• Customs and border crossing processes
• The time-critical schedule of an energy-sector project

This approach clearly demonstrates DORÇE’s strong capabilities not only in manufacturing but also in international logistics and site mobilization.

Building Systems and Technical Specifications

The following construction technologies were used together in the project:

• Modular Steel Structures
• Light Gauge Steel Building Systems
• Pre-Engineered Heavy Steel Structures

The camp settlement was planned with:

Total enclosed area: 6,328 m²
Total site area: 50,282 m²

and was designed in line with the operational requirements specific to oil and gas field projects.

Services Provided Within EPC and Supply Scope

DORÇE’s services within the project scope included the following:

• Installation supervision and on-site supervision
• Electrical installation works
• Mechanical installation works
• Fire detection systems
• Firefighting system equipment
• Furniture supply
• Industrial kitchen equipment
• Laundry equipment
• Gym equipment

All systems were implemented in compliance with international safety, quality, and occupational health standards applicable to oil and gas projects.

A Strong and Scalable Reference for the Energy Sector

The In Amenas Gas Compression Project Worker Accommodation Camp clearly demonstrates that DORÇE:

• Can achieve rapid mobilization in harsh desert and remote geographies
• Delivers global project solutions through its Ankara-based production capacity
• Produces fast results using modular and prefabricated building systems
• Is a reliable EPC and supply partner for oil and gas sector-specific camp infrastructures

This project offers a scalable, fast, safe, and logistically manageable modular camp model for energy investments in Algeria, as well as across North Africa and the Middle East.
