A Fast and Secure Light Gauge Steel Building Solution in Compliance with United Nations Standards
Implemented in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, for the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), the United Nations Central Prison Project is a significant international reference demonstrating DORÇE Prefabricated & Construction’s engineering capability in high-security public and defense structures.
Completed on a turnkey basis under the Design & Build model, the project has a total construction area of 10,000 m² and brings together security, speed, and international compliance criteria within a modern prison infrastructure. As the construction system, light gauge steel prefabricated modular building technology was selected.
Comprehensive Design and Engineering Approach
Within the scope of the project, architectural and engineering design works covering all architectural and technical requirements of the prison facility were carried out by DORÇE. In line with the building’s security, durability, and operational continuity criteria, structural steel production and superstructure supply were fully executed. All design and implementation processes were planned and delivered in accordance with international standards.
High-Security Zones and Physical Protection Solutions
Within the facility, high-security cell blocks and special-use areas were created in accordance with operational needs and security levels. Bullet-proof security sections were implemented at critical points to enhance the level of physical protection, ensuring that security was addressed not only structurally but through a holistic system-based approach.
Integrated Electronic Security and Control Systems
As part of the project, electronically controlled entry and exit systems enabling effective management of prison operations were installed. These systems were supported by hand and facial recognition technologies, as well as integrated CCTV and security monitoring infrastructure, providing uninterrupted surveillance and control throughout the facility. In addition, satellite and secure communication infrastructure was established to guarantee communication continuity.
United Nations Standards and Institutional Compliance
DORÇE has been operating as a United Nations approved supplier for over 20 years and, within the scope of this project, fully complied with the 10 fundamental principles of the UN Global Compact concerning human rights, labor rights, environmental responsibility, and anti-corruption. The project was developed to meet the security, ethical, and sustainability expectations of international institutions.
Fast and Reliable Delivery with Prefabricated Modular Steel Buildings
Thanks to the prefabricated modular steel building system, the project was completed in a significantly shorter time compared to conventional reinforced concrete construction. This approach reduced on-site labor requirements, strengthened quality control processes, and ensured a reliable, controlled, and predictable delivery process under challenging operational conditions.
A Modern Prison Approach Balancing Security and Humanitarian Standards
The United Nations Central Prison Project is a strong reference showcasing DORÇE’s engineering and implementation expertise in high-security projects such as prisons, police stations, military facilities, and strategic public buildings. The project was handled with an approach that balances the highest level of security requirements with international humanitarian standards. Accordingly, the prison infrastructure was designed and constructed not only to ensure security, but also to support orderly living conditions and usage criteria in compliance with universal norms.
